Just for the record I bought the gun used ...

A Caywood 'lefty'? I think it might be best you just fhugghedaboutit and sell it to me! I had a RH'd Caywood Wilson and the breech/barrel tapering was about the BEST I've ever handled in a 42" fowler/fuzee barrel - the profile and handling was superb! As was the performance of the lock built by Mike Rowe, long before he left Caywood Gunmakers.

I have since settled on LH'd firelocks now, and sold that one off ... still miss it some days!

If you do not have any experience in adjusting the sear engagement....PLEASE find someone who does.

That is an unsafe condition, it can be fixed but someone qualified needs to work on it.

Out of the gun it doesn’t seem to happen

Then as some have suggested either the trigger bar or the wood is pushing on the sear and lessening the engagement of the sear.

That lock has C C & R stamped inside so it was made in Mike's time at Caywood .
I have all my Flintlocks so I can pull back on the hammer at full cock, let it go and they will not fire , just in case one get snagged on something

I fixed this finally I had to shim the front of the lock plate with a washer. I think at some point inthe past someone tightened it to tight and smashed the wood at the front of the plate. Which caused it to press against the wood and the problem with the sear.
