Is there a difference between hoarding and buying in quantity to spread the cost of hazmat? If not i have been hoarding since my gun buying beginnings.

I think it is a fine line, and situations vary, but if you go into a store and there are 20 boxes of ammo, and you take all of them, you just told the world that everyone else can pound sand? So, its a personal call. I have never taken every box of ammo. In the ex I gave I would probably take 5-6 and leave the rest for someone else. I can't control what everyone else does, but I can certainly control what I do, and because the next person that comes it takes "all" the ammo, does not change what I would do. I do what I think is right ,because I believe it is the right thing to do, not because someone else does it or doesn't do it. Usually buying in quanty from a dealer who is well stocked is not a problem and does save money.

SWH had some #11 Mag. the other day. No limit. The first caps I've been able to buy in over a year. I picked up 5 at $5.99. Yesterday I had a great time at the range shooting my muzzleloader. I stopped in today to pick up some powder they had on the shelf the other day. Powder was gone and there were no caps left.

I hoarded up several years ago. If I hadn't the non-hoarders around here would not have any caps to shoot. Now I am down to about 5 tins. LOL

I priced #11's on Midway, bout $110 per 1000. That's not counting tax, shipping, hazmat etc. Think I'll transition to flint, make my own powder and shoot walnuts and hickory nuts instead of lead.

You snooze you loose. It’s not hoarding but merely stocking up when things are available and you truly need them. Then you have the ass wipes that grab all of them then are posted on Gunboard for $20 a tin.

There is a difference between hoarding and buying in quantity. Hoarders never use what they hoard, they just buy it to have it. Most people that buy in quantity actually use the stuff and use it pretty prolifically. Worse than hoarders are the scalpers. I HATE those guys. They just come in, same group of guys all the time, have the apps on their phones so they know when the stores will have what, buy it up, then you'll see them at the events selling it for triple or quadruple the price.

Hoarding, buying in quantity; call it what you want. The way inventories are checked when purchased; this product should have produced and replenished by the 3 major manufacturers in the US. I’ve reached out to CCI, Remington and Winchester regarding the shortage of this product. I’ve also asked the NMLRA to put pressure on the representatives that have shown up in Friendship at the recent National shoot. Harping among ourselves doesn’t get the message to those causing it. Get on the website of percussion cap manufacturers and speak up.

Last week, I found #10 Remington percussion caps at the Boise Cabela's. I was surprised as they didn't have a limit on how many you could buy. I bought four tins and left plenty more for others. They were $10.99 each and I was glad to get them. It's been well over a year since I had seen any. Just saw some CCI #11's at a local store (Larry's) in Nampa. Didn't buy any because I have an adequate supply already. They are most likely already gone. Such is the world we live in today.

I buy them 4-5 tins at time when I see them in stock.

I figure it's better to have them and not need them .

I don't hoard, I shoot as often as I can and I just burned up nearly a whole tin this week.

I switched to flint a long time ago. Percussion is OK, but I've had duds with them too, including CCI and RWS. A properly tuned flinter can be as fast as percussion, in some cases, even faster.

I'll never forget when there wasn't a roll of toilet paper to be found on a shelf, and people were trying to sell it for $50 per roll on Craigslist....

So here we are, people are or were hoarding percussion caps, used to fire authentic and reproduction blackpowder firearms largely based on 150+ year old technology just because demand for percussion caps probably hummed along unchanged for over 100 years but now people are going to be selfish, leacherous scum and start hoarding something that few if any of us actually as a life sustaining "need" for .

It's a chain reaction......I'm guilty of it, a lot of us are.

We see caps on a shelf and we buy 1,000 of them.

There have been probably 10 year periods of my life when I've had no more than 2 or 3 tins of caps in my house because I'd just buy a couple tins when I needed them to shoot a cap and baller or something.

Now, here I am making it a point to go to Dunhams to pick up 5 tins and a pound of Pyrodex to put next to the 2,000 caps I already have and 4 or 5 pounds of Pyrodex. Just because human nature and psychology drive me to "buy it when I see it".

You're right , if depends on your individual needs

I probably pop more caps in my basement testing new nipples , etc. than the guy who owns a .44 Brasser he forgot about will pop in his lifetime, but again there are probably avid shooters out there going through 1000 caps a week.

Everyone's needs are different

If I'm shooting a cap and baller at the gun club, I'm normally content to shoot 4 or 5 cylinders and then I'm ready to move on to something else.

I have actually been to my Dunhams and haven't even looked at the caps over the last few visits so I feel pretty good about myself, I'm like.....you're here to buy baseball gear not more caps or Pyrodex.......

It did get bad for a while, where I'd find a plastic bag in the basement with a pound of Pyrodex P and 3 tins of CCI #11's that I'd forgotten I picked up but I will use it.

I don't really feel any kind of way about people "stocking up" if they will use the supplies in the future to actually shoot, give to a buddy, etc

I do hate the resellers and gougers, and I get a little warm inside when I hear about $5 caps coming back knowing this will help some idiot who is sitting on 50,000 Rem #10's and has them on GunBroker for $30 per tin, get jammed and stuck holding them forever at a loss

This reminds me of the local gun shop owner who took out a 2nd Mortgage on his house to buy AR15s when Biden won, hoping to sell for big profits and he got left holding the bag......last I heard he was struggling to break even and pay off the loan.....good......get greedy, pay the price.

Just came from the Lawton Academy store. Oodles of #11 caps at $9.99/100. They also have Winchester 777 primers at $19.99/100, up from $14.99/100.
