Anyone remember this made for TV series? Picked up a copy at Walmart tonight and I'm on the 2nd CD already. In the 3rd series the young man Levi Zendt stops in the gun shop to buy a Lancaster Rifle. The name on the shop started with Melchoir. Later on in the show he refers to his rifle as a Fordney. Looks like Hollywood got one right.

I remember it well. I watch it every year. I tried to record it years ago. My machine broke the first time part way through. The next year I ended up missing 1 segment of the movie. The third year I finally got it copied. The wife seen it a few years ago and picked it up for me for xmas. Good flick! I picked up the book and read it too.

I just bought 3 copies of it at wal-mart a few days ago , 2 for gifts one for me, I like it.

It wasn't hard for Hollywood to get it right. James Michener did his homework extensively when writing his books. My ex knew Michener (her families neighbor) and got a copy of the book autographed for me and then she took it when we split. She also took the autographed copy of Dances With Wolves.

Man that sucks! I have watched 3 cd's so far (they are 4 hours long) and have 3 more to go. Amazing in 30 short years we go from this to Honey Boo Boo

I read the book before I watched the TV movie I got mad when they cast Robert Conrad in the part of the French fur trapper ( I am sorry my spell check does not cover this name! ) But I have to admit Conrad did a fine job. I think this movie did a better job on the mountain man era than the movie The Mountain Men.

Loved every time he said "ze beeber"! They should run it on TV again. Better than 99% of the junk they pass off these days.

That is what I thought too when I saw him, but I think he did a great job.I wish there had been more on the trapping part. One thing though when Camberlin said to use a dead stick to put the medicene on ,I have always been told to use a green one, or maybw I heard him wrong, but I still like the show.

I picked it up from SAMs club last year watched it all. My favorite parts are the first 3 discs. I live in northern Colorado and it kinda hits home when you watch these. Born and raised in the Centenial state.

Some of my retro cable channels will run certain themes for a whole day or weekend. One day back at thanksgiving was Leave it to Beaver day. They recently re-aired Into the West. Maybe if enough folks requested it, AMC or RTV would do it.

40 Years ago in Miami, there was a tv station that you could call and make requests and they would play the show if they had it or could get it. They also had such theme weeks. Duke week, Pirate week, Bogart week, Irish week every March (The Quiet Man) Colonial week etc.. Even a Florida Week (Key Largo, etc.) Yes even Elvis week.
