My understanding of Damascus steel is the way in which it is made. When polished, it has a very distinctive pattern of light and dark areas on the surface of the steel. If my recollection serves, this indicates a non-homogeneous mixture of higher and lower carbon steels (banding) in the matrix. I believe 'twist' refers to the forge welding of the steel around a rod of the correct diameter. If either the Damascus or the forge weld is not done well the barrel will not be a 'good' barrel.

Ardesa, in Spain (for Traditions), manufactures a muzzleloading shotgun: single-barrel, halfsotck, 12 gauge and 32" long barrel. It weighs less than 7 pounds and have a good lock and barrel. His name is "Fowler". Greetings.

That is a pretty little percussion fowler! Too bad they are not, or in limited supply, found in the USA! I'm sure a lot of folks just getting into BP shot gunning would love that as an option. Not sure how HC/PC correct, looks like an English sporting gun to me, but could probably pass for pre 1840 at most vous. Right!?
