Several months have now passed since I acquired components to assemble a .58 Lancaster. With the onset of warmer weather and an assortment of outdoor activities requiring my attention I had to set gun building aside. Now I'm looking forward to getting back on the job.

I've been thinking to incorporate diamond wrist checking on this gun and would be grateful for any photos you might be able to contribute from which I can draw inspiration. I seem to recall Dave Person having posted one such example.

T A Hawk,
This is obviously not a long rifle, but my double 12 gauge flint. The experts here will see errors on this as it was my first checking job. This is a full wrap around and it gets a little tough (for a beginner) when you have to stretch parallel lines to out of parallel in order to compensate for the difference in wood dimensions.
Let us know what you decide and we need photos after the checking is completed.

Looks just like my dear old Dad used to do. I still use some of his unmentionables with his checkering on them. He was a mechanical genus , and totally self taught. I've made a few Joe Long Upper Susquehanna School longrifles , and they are mostly checkered wrist guns. Checkering is doable , but too tedious for me.

Hi,
Larry's example is too late for what you are seeking. Here is an English rifle with early checkering but you really want to see are original examples from Melchior Fordney
