Enjoying my TC Cherokee .32 this afternoon. Unfortunately I broke the ramrod. Only the second time in the 32 years so since building it from a kit. Where could a fella to find a suitable replacement?

While on the subject of the little rifle, used to shoot.315 balls, I believe, with thin undershirt patches. Maybe to they were.312? Anyway, long since used those up, rarely shoot this fun gun and have plenty of.310 balls over thick Uncle Mike's patches. One group super tight but others strayed. It may not be a 25 yard squirrel rifle with this combination and 20 grains of fffg like it once was with the former ball and patch. O well, it is still a pleasure to shoot.

I long ago replaced the ramrod on my .32 CVA Squirrel with a 1/4" brass rod. But I had to buy a ten-foot length from the local metal supply house. I drilled both ends of the rod with a cordless drill (don't have a lathe) and tapped it for 10-32 threads.

Here's how I did it.

You may want to try some single ought "0"buckshot. What I have tried is tighter than .311 but I don't remember the exact size. Watch yer top knot..........

What do you consider suitable? Wood or other material?

You obviously have missed my many rants here about ramrod safety. In short, good hickory for ramrods can be hard to find. For safety sake in the field (ronny or hunting), I am a strong advocate of an unbreakable rod like Delrin. At the range I use a lot of different rods. I have steel, stainless steel, Delrin and have even used wood. My next for my new rifle will be brass on the range.

I didn't miss anything. Some people are willing to switch while others are strong advocates off staying with wood. I was just wondering what his idea of suitable was.

Suitable; the wood looked wonderful, but it can and does break on occasion. I finished my range session with a carbon arrow shaft. An unbreakable one is probably best.

Thank you all for the links and suggestions. I may break out the drill, bits, tap and die set. That DIY project looks worthwhile.

I might add also that I don have a Derin rod. I don't care for the sloppiness of them but to be fair they do their job, just feel sloppy. I have ram rods made out of just about everything out there. Some plastics are stiffer than others.

I ha e a Cherokee and have broke two over the years luckily I had bought a factory replacement just before the became impossible to find. I made a brass rod out of a gun cleaning kit. It was already threaded to accept the jigs. I added the end piece from the wood ram rod to the other end for seating the load. I attached it by drilling a small hole through it and installing a brass pin. Has worked out great for many years on the range and hunting. I save the wood for when I want rifle to look pretty.
