A member on this forum gave me some of this stuff. I was thinking, "yah right." Well I'll be darned if it didn't produce a nice accurate recipe for my fast twist .54. Go figure. I picked up a couple of more cans from him since he was getting rid of it cheap. I'll have to go back to Goex once I use this up.

It a fluke I even tried it. (The Chinese stuff that is.)

Has anyone used this stuff? Is it consistant. A friend of mine claims it has less fowling. True or BS?

I have a chance to pick some up at a real reasonable price. That's why I was wondering.

:hatsoff:

Its fireworks powder if my information is correct.

Why save some pennys and hurt another AMERICAN buisness. I try to avoid buying from China. I would never buy Chinese powder when I can get powder made by my people AMERICANS.

And we used to say the same thing about products from Japan, then Taiwan and many other countries.

I guess it comes down to priorities, but personally I don't understand the cheapness when it comes to shooting/hunting. Few, if any, shoot enough black to really "have" to buy cheap in order to shoot/hunt with muzzle loaders. At worst you can give up one six pack of beer a month, or a meal or two from the drive up window of your favorite greasy spoon. Or make a pot of morning coffee at home instead of stopping by Starbucks. And the list goes on... Another few, if any... people who don't waste a surprising sum of cash a month on frivolous things just for convenience. Yep, priorities.

If at all possible I also buy American. Just another one of those things on a very, very long list that we ALL need to do if we want to save this country and the way of life we've grown accustomed to.

Starbuck's?? Maybe that's why I can afford American made Goex. I don't buy my coffee out and I don't spend ridiculous amounts of money for a cup of coffee by some other fancy name.

I'll take mine black without nothin' in it to spoil it. That goes for powder and coffee.

This is a bit off subject, but I bought Goex last weekend right at $50 a pound, and glad to get it at that.

(FIFTY A POUND ... ARE YOU NUTS?)

Being out of powder, and desperate, I decided to drive the 25 miles to the mall, with the only sporting goods store within 150 miles that carries black, never mind which one. Glad it happens to be Goex, I like that brand.

"Honey, I'm going to the mall and buy some black powder"

"Fine, take the kids"
(two daughters, apples of my eye)

Two pounds FF, two build-a-bears, gas, cheap lunch for three = $100. My daughters made up their own country song "Daddys just another word for sucker".

(Please pardon the digression please.)

Actually, with what people pay to play golf,or fish in fancy boats, or rock climb, or even shooting sports with those new-fangled cartridge guns at $.50 a shot and 70 shots or more an hour,I find a morning at the range shooting a genuine ML a real bargain.

I have a can of 1f Chinese powder that I bought for use in my Bess. It has gone off first time every time I've used it (which isn't often). I only bought it because Powder Inc. was out of GOEX 1f and I didn't want to pay the high price of GOEX Express 1f for just playing around with.

Why not get a couple of buddies together and order a case of black? I ordered from Clarksville Gun and Rod (best prices I've found). Even if you only ordered a few pounds, it would be way less than $20/pound even with the HazMat and shipping. By ordering a case, the shipping added about $1.40 a pound over the cost of the powder. Thanks, I thought of that and it is always tempting. I have one question, one comment, and one secret:

The question: Do you have to be home and sign for the powder? I hate going to the post office or wherever with that slip they leave you and stand in line, and between work and family I'm almost never home.

The comment: I want to keep black powder over-the-counter available (how else will the new, less committed folks get it if it isn't?) I buy it over the counter to help keep it available. Few enough places sell it now.

The secret: The girls were going to get the build-a-bears anyway, I love spending time with them and indulging them a bit.

Let me tell you about my $20,000 brown bess replica. Long story short, my wife (The Lovely and Mercifull One) wanted a new car.... :shocked2:

Thanks for the suggestion.
