I know a guy that found a wooden presentation case that had two Colt engraved 1873 SAA in it. The box was was hidden up in the wooden beams of a basement of a very old house.

Truly amazing that the key is still with the chest. I found a chest at a thrift store that had a secret compartment in the bottom. It had several dead bugs and an old mouse nest in it. The bugs appeared to be period correct, but the mouse nest was much later. It had some silver Christmas tree ice cycles as part of the nest material, which dated it to after WW2.
Awesome find there, kinda surprised they were not rusted up a little. Those stories keep me looking.

That is the find of a lifetime!! Both pistols are a treasure and look to be in fantastic condition.
It’s not uncommon to find hidden drawers or compartments inside trunks or chests. My grandfather was a master woodworker by trade. He built a large wooden chest for his tool which mostly date from the turn of the century into the 30s. My father passed and I have the chest complete with tools. In the chest there is a small drawer that’s hidden from view that locks. Unfortunately there were no guns inside… just some small things.

I still can't believe this is real. You sure those cap and ball revolvers aren't replicas? Pedersoli / Uberti made replicas of both the Starr double action and the Colt. Awesome either way.

I'm sure, was able to take 5 out of 6 nipples on Starr to replace, also fixed arm spring on Colt now it indexing properly

I was thinking the same thing. Former confederate soldiers were forbidden from owning side arms for immediately following the war so this could have been a secret stash?
