Hydrogen peroxide should never be used to clean gun barrels: any metallurgist will tell you this....
Indeed. Too bad I don't know any metalurgists. Fortunately, I noticed what was happening and rescued the barrel before any serious damage was done. That formula was going around by word of mouth for many a year before anyone mentioned the harmful side effects. My rejection of it happened before the Internet and in the BBS era, there were no black powder BBS's that I knew of.

I tried it after a glowing article in Muzzleblasts in the 90's. I almost destroyed the barrel of an antique target pistol and picket rifle using that stuff. Went back to using plain water and have had no trouble since.

I don't shoot many Maxis or Reals, maybe two or three 5 shot groups at a time. I cast my own from a mixture of lead that has a BHN of 10.

FWIW, after seating the bullet I put 1 - 2 cc of thin lube (usually vegetable shortening) on my ramrod tip, then let it freefall onto the bullet.
This leaves a ring of thin lube around the top of the bullet where it contacts the barrel, and on the lands and grooves for a short distance in front of the bullet.

I can't drive a bullet fast enough to leave any visible lead in the barrel or on my cleaning patches, and I've test fired some near proof loads remotely with the rifle secured in a rest.

Have always shot RB and cleaned with water. Since barrel is not protected by a patch do you have to do anything different after shooting a Maxi or Real? May try them in the future. Thanks
I saw your old post from Nov about wanting to try some REALs. I got a 250 gr REAL mold today, let me know if ya want a few to test.
