I was informed that windex was a great cleaning agent for muzzleloaders. It only has about 2% amonia so it won't hurt the gun. Has anyone else sed this?

Yup, it cuts fouling quite well. I use it occasionally and make sure the gun is well dried and lightly oiled afterwards. Has not harmed bluing, browning or wood finishes thus far.

The only thing I use other than Boiling soapy water is Venegar Windex. I dilute it with Water. Works awesome. Smells good.

Greetings Two Snakes

Been using Windex for years as a swab between shots when at the range. Started using Black Solve though this past year and it is by far much better and it also cleans the gun up like a mirror inside when you get done shooting. Just remember to put a little W-D after you get it cleaned up to displace any moisture in the breach area that might be hanging around.

I have using Windex, amonia free, mixed with a little of Murphy's oil to swab between shots. Works great.

It's great for swabbing in the field, and it cleans revolver barrels fine. Anything with a fixed breech really needs flushed to remove the salts and fouling though, so it's not really a replacement for soapy water. I don't think any solvent is, as you can't effectively flush with them.

I use windex to swab between shots. Works great, with a minimum of fuss, but it has to be real windex (so I am told). Having said that, I'm about the only one at the club who actually swabs between shots, but I like to do it.

Hi,
kinda funny thread to me.

Over here in germany windex isn´t sold.
I only knew windex from the movie "my big fat greek wedding". The bride´s father uses windex in the movie for nearly everything.

Seems to be close to reality when it´s even good for muzzleloaders...

I think I must place an order when I find someone who is about to fly to the states

Greetings jarikeen

I always bought the cheap stuff and it worked fine.

Windex, even the cheapest kind, works great for cleaning and also great for a patch lube and you don't need to clean between shots. Formula 409,
which is a stronger version of windex, works even better. Squirt some down the barrel and it will flush out everything.

Windex is just a glass and surface cleaner that dries without leaving streaks. The better car windshield wiper solvents work as well as Windex does. I am pretty sure they have windshield wiper fluid in Germany!

I swab between shots and I don't care what anyone says about it. {I must like to do it too} My accuracy is awesome and my guns stay clean. I used Windex for awhile then I got turned onto the Murphey Oil Soap/windsheild solvent mixture and have been there ever since

Of course we´ve got windshield wiper fluid.
Maybe I´ll give it a try. Thank you

windshield wiper fluid has alcohol in it, don't know if that helps or hinders using it. might actually help. flinch

A local gun shop owner told me about windex a couple years ago. He uses it to wipe down dirty stocks on guns he takes in trade. Gave it a try and it doesn't seem to hurt a thing, plus it cuts old grease pretty well. At least it's good to try if you are worried about maybe screwing up an old, unkown finish.
