I have a CVA Hawken, bought used from a gun store. It shoots fine. When I first bought it there was just a trace of rust present at the first cleaning (patch came out with a brown stain). I cleaned it thoroughly and it was fine for two years or so, then one day the rust was back. I cleaned it like crazy and it was fine for several more years, now the rust has returned. I always clean right away and always clean until the patches come out clean. This "outbreak" is worse than before, I have used like 100 patches and the bronze brush and every reasonable solvent that I can think of. I wait a day and a clean patch comes out with a brown stain. I have used bore butter and I have used firearm (petroleum based) gun oil. Neither seems to stop the rust.
The rust is in the breech end - I can tell this because if I run a patch halfway down, or three-quarters of the way down, the barrel it comes out clean. When I run it all the way to the breech I get the rust.
Any ideas what to do? Any ideas what I am doing wrong?
