Anybody know much about the flash hole size of typical original revolver nipples? I order a set from S&S for a Whitney Navy, as the flash hole on my originals looked worn out compared to modern Uberti colt nipples. However, the new nipples have a massive flash hole, 42% larger than the originals.

Measurements:

Modern Uberti (Almost all colts and remingtons): .033"
Worn looking Whitney Nipples: .043"
New Whitney Nipples from S&S: .074"

Never seen a nipple with such a large hole as the ones from S&S. Think I wasted my money there.

Thanks all! I picked up a set from track of the wolf. Waiting for them to be delivered.

I broke one of the original nipples when trying to remove it. Nothing has worked so far on it, heat, various wrenches nothing. I guess I need to drill it out. Any suggestions on the best way to do that? What size ez out should I get? This is new to me, so thought I'd get suggestions before I attempt it. I got 5 of them out with heat, soaking in kroil, etc.

I got one of these last year.

The drill portion is useless but the extractor works amazingly.

The #0 size would probably be perfect for your application.

I'd start out with some left hand drill bits. They don't always remove the stuck bolt you're drilling, but it happens often enough to be useful. Always nice when you don't have to dig out an extractor.

Something else you might try. This would be before you make your next attempt at extraction. Turn the cylinder upside down and on a block of wood or a wooden bench. Now use a flat ended straight punch that is smaller than the bottom side of the nipple and tap the nipple lightly ( you are not trying to drive it out) just light pecking a half dozen times. This is just to try to break the rusted or fuzzed contacts on the treads. Then try the extraction gently a few times. If it won’t break loose, peck it from the bottom side again a few times and try again.
