I bought this already knowing that it may not be real, and that is what I paid. To me it’s a roll of the dice on some things. Either way I still love the way it looks, and the time someone put into it

To the best of my knowledge the Navy never bought a 1849 .31cal pistol.
The ancor and USN look crudly engraved. The Navy would never use marking like that.

You should post your question on the Civil War Talk forum - In the small arms and ammunition section. That forum is frequented by many serious Civil War weapons collectors/experts. You should quickly receive some expert opinions.

I am pretty certain, that it's a knock off. Especially the Colt name on the frame etc..

I like it, original or repro, looks to be a good shooter. Does have nice patina unlike a new Pietta or Uberti.

No I have not

I noticed U.D.C. engraved on the heel

The U D C (Union Defense Committee) should be stamped on the heel rather than engraved. That "engraving" looks like it was done with an electric pencil and not an engraver.
