Leave in 2 weeks for the Texas MLRA Shoot in Brady, TX.

It is one hour trip or so to Texas Jacks from Brady.

Considering a Colt, either a Uberti or Cimmaron.

It will be a fun pistol.

Thus far I have been buying Remington 1858s as I like them for line matches.

If a person was to get a Colt, which model is the pick of the litter and why? I have leanings and calibers which I like, but do not want to sway thinking.

Mate,
a Navy Colt, they just point really well, great economics.!! I use an old London Navy Uberti for cowboy action and it is one slick pistol. I know why Hickok carried a brace of them,

Cheers

Cimmarons are Ubertis, and if someone tells you that all Cimmarons are "hand selected", they're just blowing smoke.

It used to be that Ubertis were definitely nicer guns that Piettas... now, not so much. My Cimmaron Uberti experiences have been...umm, not so great. Unless you're picking one out in person, and you're just ordering one, I'd just go with the Pietta.

If you’re going to be there, pick the best one that they have.

Have fun

Richard, my favorite Colt is the 1860 Army, .44 cal. with the longer grip frame and slightly longer barrel than a Navy model. It just fits my hand and works. My brother Tiny had smaller hands than me, and loved the Navy in .44 cal. ( the Navy was not originally offered in .44), but whatever you get, insist on the steel frame. I think the slickest looking Colt is the 1861 Navy with the round barrel. Have fun, own more than one :haha:  :hatsoff: Tree.

1851 or 1860. Handle them both and see which fits you better. I have both and then some. Would not part with them.

Like Treestalker, I'm a M.1860 fan. Just love the lines of the revolver and the feel in the hand. For whatever reason, the Remington is uncomfortable for me to shoot...keep getting knocked on the joint of the middle finger. If you prefer the .36, the M.1862 Navy is the way to go. Same grip as the M.1851 Navy but has the cleaner lines of a round barrel and 'creeping' loading lever to make it sexy!

Richard,

IF you see one there, just BUY IT: A 1860 Colt Army from Uberti with a fluted cylinder and in a beautiful charcoal blue. Uberti only makes them 1-2 times a year, so they get back-ordered. I believe that each one is one of the finest examples Uberti has ever produced, and here's why:

I bought my son one of these since he wanted an 1860, and a friend of mine had one that was very "tight" lockwork-wise, with exceptional timing (fluted cylinders don't leave much room for error, timing-wise, so IMHO Uberti has Master Craftsmen assemble these pieces). I borrowed my son's 1860 Army to use in obtaining my Distinguished Expert in Pistol. Under reasonably controlled conditions one can expect to garner a score of 84 x 100 at 50 yards distance on a NRA B-6 50 yd Slow-Fire Pistol Target shooting with two hands. With an out-of-the-box Uberti (charcoal)!

Mine isn't the only example of this great workmanship. Three other friends in the same club have bought them so far. All three are "tight" & shoot straight. Fit & finish are exceptional! And all of your same supplies will fit the Colt Army since you already compete with '58's....

Check-out my Facebook page to see the color case hardening on the gun in the leather out in front. Or take a peek on the Uberti web site. You'll be very glad you did!

Good luck at the Competition!

Yep.... Took the words right out of my mouth. 1860 Army with the fluted cylinder, it's a beautiful gun. I think I would get the 5 1/2 inch barrel. Kind Regards and Good Luck in your choice. Frank Barker
