Hello,

Im looking for a large Confederate D Guard Bowie. Looking for something very historically accurate, with a blade around 17 inches or so. I've looked at a few custom jobs from different bladesmiths, just curious if anyone has something along these lines they'd part with. Originals are waaaaaaaaay outta my price range. Thanks,
Greg

Greg, if you end up looking for an original be careful since the D- guard has been artfully faked ; too many times to count.

For an original you could check out Rebel Relics. They deal with original bowie knives and know how to spot fakes. Other than that, I would make you one, but alas, my forge is set up to take maybe a 12 inch blade max. You could hit up Adam Daub on Facebook. He does some amazing reproductions as well as Nick Skinner. Just some suggestions.

Or, our own LRB

Yeah it's actually for a civil war display that I want to make. So as nice as it would be to have an original, ain't gonna happen! I looked at some of the mass produced ones, and would have to take the guard off, and make a new one. I'll see if I can look up some of the makers mentioned. Not on Facebook, so won't be able to contact Mr. Daub. Thanks!

I looked at that one too. I'm looking for one of these early war huge Bowie you see the soldiers getting there pictures taken with. Most were probably thrown to the roadside as they realized after long marches, they weren't worth carrying around. Thank you though.

Hi Greg, If you want, send me a picture and details of what you want. I’ll make it, if you like it you can buy, if not I’ll sell it or use it myself 😆

Dan99,

Here is what I'm would like, as close as I can get at least. These things are comically huge, but a true part of our Civil War heritage. How much would something like this be to produce? Like everyone things are tight these days! I can stitch a correct sheath, painted with DEATH TO TRAITORS like some of the originals. Appreciate your time.

Greg

Thank you!
The blade is 18-1/2” long, overall length 23-1/2”, 1-1/2 wide, 3/16 thick at the spine. Total weight under 2 lbs

I received the knife from Dan99 yesterday. He did an excellent job of capturing a early war Confederate D Guard Bowie. I believe the blade is 18" with an overall length of about 23". Spine if the blade is around 3/16"-1/4". I gave Dan99 a pic with all the dimensions from an original, and he created this knife from that. It's very well put together, fit and finish are great. I would buy another knife from him in a heartbeat. He kept me up to date as the build progressed, and when it was done , he shipped quickly. I will definitely use him for any builds that I desire in the future. Plus it's a good practice to help each other out in this forum! Thank you Dan99!
