I had read on more than one occasion; that the gunpowder produced towards the end of the CW at Augusta Powder Works was a far superior powder than anything being produced by the federals. Some might argue this given the problems with arty shell fuses at Gettysburg.
My question is; is anyone out there that has any experience with surviving confederate powder? I’ve always wanted to check velocity and fowling using an original specimen, but the only way I can think of is to buy original cartridges. The problem with that is, they could deteriorate over time. Some of them are from Britain as well…
Anyone have any first hand knowledge of confederate powder?
