Conical bullet recommendation for T/C Patriot.45

I recently acquired my first bp pistol, a Patriot in .45. I’ve read that they are prone to cracking the stock, and was hoping for some guidance as to what weight bullet and approximate powder charge would be a safe bet to avoid problems. Thanks!

If I was shooting a .45 pistol I'd be tempted to wrap a little tissue paper around a #445599.

Shoot a .440 round ball and 20 grains of 3F.

Cracking comes from starting the ball in the barrel while the pistol is in a loading stand..

Or, overloading this target pistol as if it was a magnum. The gold standard is a PRB, and not a conical.

PRB would be better. I've shot a .40 caliber LSWC in an unmentionable with my Patriot, but it really did not shoot well. It's a target pistol, not a hunting pistol, light loads are the way to go.
