Does anyone know of a source for .456 conicals for the Ruger Old Army? I bought some a couple years ago from Blackjackhill, but they seem to have gone out of business.
I recall reading somewhere that .45 ACP cast bullets can be used in the ROA, but in mine they are way too loose.
Has anyone tried Webley .455 bullets in the Ruger? I have found a source for those, but hesitate to buy them without some indication that they would work.
I know that Lee makes a .456 mold for the ROA, but I have not cast bullets for many a year, and do not intend to get back into it.

Any suggestions would be welcome.

Sir, since the day the first ROA was made, the size for both ball and conical has been .457.

Lee make a double mould for both.

tac - 26 years shooting a .457cal ROA

the Buffalo slugs are sized correctly but very exspensive.
the others are .454 - I'd steer clear.
the Lee mold conicals are .457 with reduced heel and do fine in my ROA, I cast from as pure lead as possible.

Yes, I wondered about the .454. It says they are sized for the ROA, but seem too small. And the Buffalo's are indeed pricy. Since I do not want to get into casting again, I may just go back to RB after I run out of conicals. I do prefer the conicals when I carry the ROA as a hog side arm.

On another forum, AbitNutz just posted this report about how the 210 grain Big Lube bullets from Whyte Leather Works shot from his ROA.

Apparently the .454 sized conicals do shoot well in the ROA. Perhaps the chamber walls are slightly tapered to provide just enough of a friction fit to hold them in place.
Then when asked he confirmed that these were Whyte's 210 grainers.

ROA, Pyrodex pellets and Big Lube bullet

So I just wanted to see what would happen if I loaded my stainless 5 1/2 ROA with 30 grain Pyrodex pistol pellets and a Big Lube conical bullet. No wad is required with the Big Lube. I had my doubts if the bullet would fit without crushing the pellet. It just fits perfectly.
I don't know how but with this combination it still shoots at the point of impact. Recoil is not a problem...all in all it shoots really well.

I got the Big Lube bullets from whyte leather works and am very happy with them. I emailed Biglube.com about getting a mold but never received a reply.

yep, the 210. Works silly good...

I have several older Ideal molds for 45-70. The lighter two are 190 and 210 grains. Thet work quite well in the Roa.

I should fire my pot up and cast some of the Lee conicals to sell members here evidently.
at the price of the Buffalo slugs I could make it worth my time seling by the 100.

Well, Blizzard, if you could significantly beat Dixie's price for the Buffalo bullets, I would be interested in one or two hundred. I am just not going to pay the $35 per hundred that Dixie wants. Would rather stick to RB.
