Does anyone shoot conical bullets out of their 1860 Colt army? Do you think balls are better than bullets or not? :hmm:

I've shot conicals out of an 1851 sheriff in .44. Accuracy was not quite as good as round ball but pretty good. No reason you couldn't shoot them out of your 1860 Colt.

I once tried t/c maxi-hunters in my uberti walker for deer hunting, they shot ok but kicked like a mule. and that gun is a handfull to start with! I had to grind the frame openning quite a bit to make enough room to line the slugs up under the rammer. using conicals designed for revolvers would eliminate that problem of course. accuaracy was so-so. I never shot a deer with that combo, but it's power sure impressed the guys at the local range.

I've shot plenty of my hand-cast Lee conicals out of my '60 Army. You can't stuff as much powder in under them, and accuracy is not quite as good as the RB but they work quite well, and carry a bit more punch. Most Army's are zeroed at 75 yards; these will zero at more like 50.

I've shot soft cast bullets out of my .36 Navy.
Accuracy was not good and loading them with the guns loading lever was a chore even though they were the proper "heeled" style of bullets.

When using conicals I load them with the cylinder off the gun and use a loading device. Its much easier and helps keep them straight.
