i just gotting my barrel seated in my stock channel to where i just have to press it in with just just a tiny little pressure....so my :hatsoff: to you guys that do this most of the time if not all the time....my question is should the barrel just drop in with no pressure or be snug....just have to order my main spring vise so i can take the lock apart to inlet the lock in the stock....if the barrel channel was giving me fits at times with the tang inletting i guess i'm going to have a picinic with the lock channel (sigh)....at least i have the stain going good....i guess it's time to git back to work....will keep ya posted....most likely with more questions as i go  ...........bob

That all depends on who is building it. I like mine barely snug but easy to get out. As if I ever take the barrel out, I would like to do wo without breaking the forestock. So I build mine so it will easily go into the stock, then when I seal the inside of the barrel chanel with Tru-Oil, it makes it just a tad tighter but I can still get it out.

An I seal the barrel channel to barrel with wax after I have the gun built to keep any water from accidently getting under the barrel.

I try to get a easy fit with no pressure required to insert or remove the barrel.

I use Tru-Oil, but any oil will cause the wood to expand a little as it is soaked up.

On a few guns, this has caused me to have to go back and scrape the barrel channel after finishing the wood. :curse:
