Not only that but, Crisco is made for making girl stuff like cookies and cakes and pies. Putting that kind of stuff into a muzzleloading gun is just plain wrong.
Maybe it is to keep the wife from saying things like,
"WHO THE HELL HAS BEEN INTO MY CRISCO? HAVE YOU BEEN PUTTING MY CRISCO INTO THAT DAMN GUN AGAIN?" :rotf:

I used Crisco once in my muzzleloader and I lost 3 inched in barrel length and dropped a whole caliber, went from .54 to .50 because of Crisco.

How did that happen you ask?

Because Crisco is shortning... :rotf: :haha:

I use Go-Jo white hand cleaner for PRB, lil' dab' will do ya'.!

There isn't any abrasive materials in that, is there? I know the Go-Jo we use at work (the orange stuff) is very gritty.

A fellow Muzzleloader shooter in our club swears by Crisco, bacon grease, hamburger fat, etc. anything natural. works for him. seasons the barrel alright.

That joke about shortening the barrel was original, nice one!!!!

You can get Go-Jo in a tub that's white, and creamy, no grit. I think it has some lanolin in it. I've bought some, but haven't tried it yet.

Would Crisco be a natural substance? It seems to me that its a man made compound created to replace animal fats. When used in a muzzleloader Bore Butter or Hoppes #9 are used to repalce animal fats used for patch lubes in the past. :rotf: Don't you just love that over used word NATURAL? :blah:

Crisco does work well. I just don't use it because I hate anything that makes a greasy mess. Soon my hands are greasy, the gun is greasy, etc. I prefer using Ballistol treated patches and prelubed wads because they're almost dry to the touch, or Hoppe's #9 lube if I'm lubing precuts in the field. Hoppe's wipes off the fingers easily whereas Crisco doesn't. I make a big enough mess as it is! :rotf:
