Anyone here own any of the custom powder horns offered from October Country? If so what's your opinion of them?

Jim

I don't own any, but I have seen a few and they were good quality work to my eyes. But I am not an artist as many are. I make my own horns and have a friend scratch them since his work is truely artistic. With a friend like Matt I don't need to look any further. :idunno:

I really like the design of their Fort Pitt horn and the coloration of the French and Indian horn. From the photos it appears to be good workmanship.

Recently, I was in the market for a new horn (to go with a trade gun being built for me and the early style hunting bag I made to go with it). I looked at the October Country, but decided to get one from Ron Vail (see his website). I liked his work so much, that about six weeks later, I called him and I asked him to build another for me as a collector piece. It looks like something picked up off a French and Indian war battlefield, which is one of the few instructions I gave Ron. His work is superb, his lead time is certainly reasonable, and his prices will vary with what you want and what you want done to it, but are very reasonable.

there's 5 nice custom powder horns in the classifieds here but I notice that now some are marked SPF.
