I built CVA (ASM) Colt 1851Navy back in late 80's and I lost my manual. What diameter ball bullet I should use and the gap between barrel and cyclider. I think I used 16 grains of FFFg.

If it is a .36 caliber pistol it uses .375 diameter lead balls.

If it is a .44 caliber pistol it uses balls ranging from .451 to .457.

Depending on your guns chamber diameter the .451 ball might be too loose but the .454 diameter ball works pretty good in all of these guns except for the Ruger Old Army.

The cylinder gap between the face of the cylinder and the rear of the barrel should be about .008 to .015 when the cylinder is pushed back against the frame,

In my 44, I use a 451 or 454 RB with 20-25 grns of 2F Pyrodex and a Wonder Wad. That works pretty well. Was picking off water bottles today at 30 yrds.
My biggest complaint with this gun is that it has a nasty habit of spent caps falling down inside the gun. Today one lodged between the trigger and the hammer. Gun would not cock. Had to stop shooting and tear down.
