There will be some CVA experts on here to tell dates, but you have the best they made. Douglas is one of the best barrels.

It was the Mountain rifle that supposedly had the Douglas Barrel, the CVA Hawken came much later.

.Well i do Stand corrected..50,cal 36inch
i just thought it was a Hawken??
thanks for re-plys already
under the barrel at the breach
it is clearly stamped DOUGLAS

As said, the only CVA's to supposedly have "Made in USA" barrels were the early Mountain Rifles -with "possible" production build dates that fall between sometime in 1975 to sometime in 1978. IOW, they are only listed in CVA's 1976 to 1978 catalogs as MAde in USA (are not in the 1975 catalogs, and by the 1979 catalog they are no longer listed as made in USA and have Spanish barrels). I have never seen or heard of any of them having "Douglas" actually stamped on the barrel though.

However, it is also thought that some earlier "protypes" were also made before the production rifles or for family/friends, with embellishments that were not included on the production rifles. Things like fancier grade woods, etc. So various barrel lengths might also have been made for those rifles, not just the standard 32" that the production rifles had.

With Douglas stamped on the barrel and since I don't think a 32" barrel could be measured and thought to be a 36", if it is an original (not a fake) it could be you have one of those prototypes if they did exist. Either way, you have a great shooter that will give you years of service.

Enjoy...

I have a .45x32" CVA barrel that is stamped "made in USA". I've been told it's a Douglas barrel.

You, dozens of members here (including me) and everybody else who has the right vintage production MR's also have barrels stamped Made in USA on them. But nobody has proved conclusively that they are Douglas barrels and not some other makers barrels (Sharon has also been cited as possible). Only one gent came close that I know of, and he did so here. No reason to doubt him, but his story still relies on his memory, not documented fact, so still remains inconclusive unfortunately.

I have a mountain rifle with that bbl, built from a kit about 1978..Hank I agree, it is a tack driver

.You know i never thought of that Probaly since
the Factory is 15 miles away from me, the barrel
just a thought was packed to Douglas and SHA-ZAM
goes the stamp..be cause myself i know a 30 year
veteran worker at Douglas barrel.co. and have bought a many douglas barrels right out of his
house but modern, whoops..
