I see one for sale locally. Percussion, no patch box, 33 1/2 inch barrel, half stock, 2 barrel keys, 50 caliber. Looks like a Mountain rifle. Never heard of this model before. Any one else know about this rifle?

I remember that CVA advertised them back in the early 80's...….Simply a regular Kentucky with a half stock with barrel rib and other enhancements. I thought they were cool back then.

I have only seen one of those come up for sale on GB, Dont remember how much it went for. Thought it was a pretty good looking rifle. Plan to build one like it some day from an old CVA Kentucky. When I get another old CVA Kentucky. Bet it would be a good balanced shooter.

From the online picture, it looks like a Mountain rifle, without the patch box. Thought I knew all the CVA models, but not this one.

I have an old Shooters Bible from 1986 and the Kentucky Hunter is not in there. If the Hunter is similar to the Mountain, it's a goodlooking gun. A little "Hawkenish".

Not sure if this against forum rules, please delete if so.
I have no idea on how to post links, but to see a picture, look at Two Wrights guns website.

Looked to me like the parts and 331/2" barrel from a CVA Kentucky married to a legitimate half stock, still shaped like the Kentucky but no brass spacer. Barrel wedges instead of pins, and an under barrel rib to carry the ramrod pipes and thats about it. So they made the gun look like a "half stock Kentucky rifle" . Yes it was a thing, look it up. I think they looked rather nice for what they were.

Well, I did a horse trade for the rifle. Since I have no idea how to post pictures, here are a few details. 33 1/2 inch barrel. Two barrel wedges, they are spaced farther apart from my CVA mountain rifle. The comb of the stock is curved, a slight hump. Right where the spacer would be on the 2 piece Kentucky rifle, there is about a 2 inch wooden " nose cap". The brass side plate is stamped engraved. Barrel stamped Kentucky Hunter. No current range report available, as the sand bass are running, and turkey season opens tomorrow.

sounds like your describing it to a tee. Look like this? CVA Kentucky Hunter 50cal 2-2-19 1.JPG

Any one else know about this rifle?
No I haven't, but a quick search shows it is indeed a factory offering from 91(?)
I never knew they built that. It's easy to see what they did by using "married" parts of other offerings.
The double trigger and bridled lock in their Kentucky frame along with that 33 1/2 slow twist barrel should be a tack driver.
Interesting find, Ya done good by grabbin it!
I want one!

Bought one at auction...had no idea. Pretty. Got it home slid it under the bed and forgot about it. Found it a couple of weeks ago. Stock has a foot long split that's half the butt deep. Glassed it. Started. might make a shooter but it'll never be pretty again. I don't know how to upload pics...so...it's a work in progress. date stamp 90. snxxx306. no warning. replaced sight. barrel will not exchange with CVA mt Rifle. Wedges spacing is different. I keep finding things to post about it. Stock looks like birch...or beech. Very hard. 14 inches nose to first lockbolt. 31.5 overall stock length. Poorly fitting Butt plate.

I have the St. Louis Hawkins only differences are a brass cap, fiber glass ram rod, Back in my 30s and 40s at 100 yards could cut 1 inch groups eh today`s eye sight I am pleased with 2 inch groups at 100. CVA has some awesome early repros and fantasy rifles

Well...that took forever...and I don't know how I did it. The buttplate didn't fit when I took the photo so I left it off.
