Does anyone use minwax stains for gun stocks? About only thing available around here

As in my above post. However, they have a stain that is a combo stain/finish and I'm not sure of it.
I have a rifle just like that and I have no complaints except for the trigger guard. That brass don't bent it breaks.
You could try heating it with a torch to anneal it.

An older guy did try annealing it with a torch (and brazing it). He got it all back in one piece but now it don't fit very well.A little JB Weld tooATTACH=full]206629[/ATTACH]

When I pulled the barrel, I discovered there are no markings at all on the barrel. No CVA, no serial no. No caliber and no warning about BP only. I knew there was nothing on top of the barrel, figured it was on the bottom. It wasn't.

It's pretty dark. Suggest don't mistake the name for the kind of wood to put it on. .ost walnut looks good without any stain or something very light.

CVA Kentucky stripped the stock of the old stain, very easy with 490 grit sandpaper, it was like the original stain was only on the surface. Also stripped the old blue and rebluedvwith Birchwood Casey cold blue.

Finished stock with BC walnut diluted with water. Several coats it has a nice honey color. Next step BC tru oil. Will be several hand rubbed coats.

Did order a new tang screw from Deer Creek, it is exactly the same size as the original.

There was a nice one on GB that sold today for $130. I should have bid on it but my sticking point was $60 mailing fee. I’m looking for one to give to one of my grandsons. I had two from the early 80’s but I have passed them on to my daughter and son. Good luck and keep us posted on what you do.
