Can't help but wondering about the first guy that thought of wrapping a piece of cloth or leather around a ball.

Did his contemporaries make fun of him?
I don't think so!
We all know the purpose of the cloth, is to patch the wound, so it won't bleed too bad :slap:

All this talk of daisy patches got me to thinking. In this case it might make my head hurt. Totally untried and proposed method.

Why not take two strips of diameter wide ticking and cross them at the muzzle. You would have to cut the patches at the muzzle. There is no need to slit one patch or have a complicated cutter to make a daisy pattern. There would be two layers of patching between the powder and ball and limited bunching around the circumference of the ball.

Or maybe that's just too complicated and I'll stick with cutting one patch at the muzzle.

In as much as Mike Nesbitt made that statement, you would have to get the clarification from him.

I haven't seen the "Prime Possibles" article yet so I'm not sure of what was said in the write up. I still think that I have to try it before I make much more than unsupported statements.
