The "southwest-style" mocs I've made in the past turned out well, and very comfortable. But I have crappy results making center-seams. The "Peter-Pan" toe always ends up too narrow. And feels like I'm stepping on the puckered seam under the tips of the toes and the heel. They turn out well enough when I make a felt pattern, so I'm doing something wrong. Any suggestions/tips for improving my pattern? I don't normally crab about footgear fit, so I'll try the Shoe-pack style next if I can't get this right.

BTW, I'm using the Nativetech.org pattern: http://www.nativetech.org/clothing/moccasin/mocinstr.html

PS: In "Collector's Encyclopedia of The American Revolution" under "Footwear", there's a pic of a re-enactor rifleman getting some Z's, and his center-seams have a wide, round toe, not pointy like peter-pan, with a collar all the way 'round that he's got folded down! How do I get the pattern to fit the toes like that?

Thanks!

hey Jet try this for your pattern. put on some old tube socks n then use athletic tape to loosly tape up your whole foot(heel ,toes, sole, ankle everything) up to the height ya want the mocs(ya may need some help from another person to reach all the areas around yer foot). draw a line down the front of your foot where ya want the seam and also down the back of your foot where ya want the seam. Cut the sock tape n all from your foot(being careful to not cut your foot of course) following those lines n ya got an automatic pattern. Adjust the size of the pattern a bit to allow for stitching and the height ya want the moc to come on your leg n there ya go.

Try this. The pattern you used is not really correct. You should not have a seam under your toes. There have been quite a few threads on this subject, and it would seem, that the seam under the toes has not been found to have been used by but possibly only one or two tribes. http://southernindiandept.org/mocpattern.htm

Thanks Bird! Thanks Wick! I had searched on these topics a bit here, so thanks for steering me in the right path. I'm ready to try again now.

As always, great forum and great folks.
