There ya go!! I would sure go after that one. If I didn't already have so many flint pistols, I'd go after that myself. Especially at that price. Good luck. Rick. :hatsoff:

The guy on Armslist didn't bother to reply so back to my original choices, plus I threw the French Model 1773 into the mix. It could pass for an AN. IX except for the flashpan, both the shape and because it's steel instead of brass. I'm in no rush, weighing all my options.

In the end I ended up getting a dragoon from Earl an Kathy Kathan. Arrived Wednesday. Will probably shoot it tomorrow. Photos to come later.

Took the new dragoon pistol out last weekend, fired the last 15 .595 balls I had on hand. No delay, perfect ignition. Had the lock service done by Earl Kathan. Shot a shot or two few shots at 5 paces, but mostly at ten and 20 and one at 25 (which was a miss). Trigger pull is not heavy but it must have been enough to create a group in the upper right (still in the head though) it takes some getting used to shooting without sights. My smoothbore long guns all have front sights, and even the flintlock pistols I've all shot such as the Kentucky had front and rear.

I'll be darkening the stock with a walnut stain but other than that looks to need little work.

The vent hole is a tad larger than I'm used to, even on my 1777, so a toothpick doesn't quite block it when cleaning and I have to use duct tape as well.

I still need a French pistol but that will have to come after I've enjoyed this one for awhile!
