Well got it done today.... I should have videoed the shoot. Glad it was only 5 shots, cuz my arthritis in my hands is really working overtime on me.

I hear you. Pistol recoil is hard on me, too.
Interesting you guys mention this. I went to the range today and one round really surprised me when it went off so it slapped my shoulder a bit.

Keep shooting gentleman... nothing better than staying young by burning powder!!

December 2020 - Decorate the Christmas Tree
Our December target comes from a suggestion on the Monthly Postal Match - General Discussion thread. It was done here a couple years ago. It is called Decorate the Christmas Tree. I've reworked and attached it as a pdf you can download and print.

Write your Forum Screen Name on your target!

The distance will be 25 yards.
Five shots only.
Shots will be off hand only - Standing with no support aids.

Only traditional, open iron sighted muzzle loading firearms; peeps are allowed under the condition you mark your target so I know you used a peep. Percussion, flintlock or matchlock ignition only. Cap and Ball revolvers are OK. Pistol targets will be scored in their own class. You can submit both a rifle and a pistol target.

Single patched round ball only. No restrictions on caliber. (a patchless ball may be used if so desired)

Scoring will be indicated on the target.

Mail your target, postmarked no later than December 31, to:

Marc Smith
1900 Parkway Drive
Casper, WY 82609
Attn: December Target

If you don’t mind sharing I would also like to know what you’re shooting. Include type of firearm, caliber, ball diameter, patch thickness, lube, powder type and grains used, barrel length and twist rate. This isn’t required I’m just the curious sort.

Thanks for shooting and Godspeed ladies & gentleman!!

MSmith
Is the pistol one hand or is two hand hold allowed?

Got my target shot. Can definitely tell that I haven't shot since fall rendezvous in October. But man the smell of burning black powder has to be what heaven smells like.

Pistol target is in the mail, I'm planning on sending a rifle target as well. Just gotta figure out how to patch those round balls. All I usually shoot out of my rifles are minies. I brought a 58' Enfield yesterday but the patches were too thick with a .570 ball (pillow ticking) and couldnt get them to start.

The target is pretty tricky. At 25 yards you cant see the tree or score lines.I had to shoot at the center/top of where i thought that the 10 ring was, then look through the spotting scope and the adjust sighting in on the hole made.I really enjoyed it but the day was damp and the target fell apart being just regular paper. If i get time ill have it copied on thicker paper at the copy shop and shoot it again. Thanks

That's why I color the 6 and 10 areas with a bright marker.
