Have you ever slow simmered the tongue and peeled it when cool to eat? Good with horseradish or hot pepper jelly on crackers. Slice then and enjoy! :v

Never tried it. I can't say I've ever eaten any type of tongue. Wait a minute... Do shoe tongues count? :rotf: :rotf:

Beef tongue, but never deer. I suspect it would be similar. Around here, many hispanics use beef tongue regularly in burritos and for barbacoa (BBQ). Good stuff!

Tongue is some good eating whether it's venison or beef. It's like the tenderest most flavorful roast you've ever had. If ya ain't tried it, yer missin' out!

Ive got a buff tongue I cut out tuday in the crock pot now. Tongue and hominy is a meal fit for a king.

Yes I think I will order the latter. Could I have that in a brown 9 D please.

Tongue and hominy! Ok that sounds good! I did tongue and barley a couple weeks back. I gotta try that. :)

You fellas enjoy yourselves. I'll have to set this one out. :shocked2: :shocked2:

I get lots of tongue from the old lady!
Mostly sharp and well simmered.
The last thing I want is more tongue from another critter.
And thats a fact! :rotf: :rotf:

Best Regards

Old Ford

 Right on. We boil it and let it cool. The hearts are also good. Just do the same.

Rex Allen had something on this a while back, I think he boiled it in sage and then peeled and sliced and then the slices were put on a spit and roast over coals- anyone do it that way? It is supposed to be PC

I prefer mine pickled. Cook, peel and pickle just like and egg. Very nice.

Regards

Boiled, then chilled, peel, cut into thin slices and eat as a sandwich with lots of mayo and salt.

I love tongue, never had deer, but love beef. Boil, peel, season and eat. To me it taste like super tender roast beef.

Never thought of hominy to eat with it, sounds good though.

I put horseradish on everything anyway. Keeps the woman outta my food as well. People who won't try tongue are really missing out on some good eats.

I shoot the ocasional wild hog out back and hadn't even thought about saving the tongue.
Has anyone tried pig and how would you fix it?

I don't believe that you'll find too much tongue in hot dogs. It is too valuable to put in to a hot dog.

If you want a real treat, get a small, square piece of cheesecloth (6"-8" on and edge) and fold it over double and then put a good two tablespoons of mixed pickeling spices in the middle. Wrap it up like a little drawstring bag and tie it of with a piece of string. Drop that along with one tongue (skin and all) in enough water to cover the meat, along with four or five cloves of crushed garlic and a tablespoon of good strong horseradish. Simmer that for an hour or so and then take out the tongue, chill it and then skin it (it's a lot easier to skin after it's cooked). Trim off the fat and serve it cold with fresh baked bread and butter. If you are really adventurous, don't put the mixed pikeling spices in the cheeseloth bag, but you will know it when you bite down on one of those peppercorns!
This also can be swerved hot along with steamed cabage, carrots, boiled wild celery, or wild lambs quarter.
