I suspect the .715 with a .018 patch will be the more accurate. The .69 ball with .028 patch won't quite fill the bore.

.715 + (2 X .018)= .751

.69 + (2 X .028)= .746

If your bore mics .750, and if it's an Italian bess .750 is pretty close, the .69 ball needs at least a .030 thick patch to fill the bore. A little thicker wouldn't hurt.

I suspect that accuracy would be about the same if the two patch thickness/ball diameters added up to the same dimension. I also supect that .018-.020 thick patching is easier to find than .030 + thickness.

OK, .69 + (2X.025)=.74

So you will have .010 crush of the patching.

That load should shoot well and load fairly easily.

.730-.715=.015/2=.0075 thick patching.
Which will be difficult to load.

That .715 with a .010 patch may not go down a .730 bore without the use of a heavy mallet.

In this case, IMHO, you are much better off with the .69 ball.

Gotta know bore diameters to calculate patch/ball combinations.

Aye J.D, the .715s I'm afraid wouldn't work but will try at least one to see how they load. We figured the .690s would be the way to go but the .022 thick patches was just a tad to loose. This .025 canvas just might be the answer. :v

well gotta hand to ya roy,,,ya keep the boy busy while yer doin yer work on "our" gun.. have him huntin down patchin material, and givin him blocks of wood to play knife handle with an sendin lil pics too drool over,,,asides his cider ,mead,dogs ,fishys,,,guess ya got a lil time left..i told him it's gonna make a GREAT christmas present....seems sometimes he has no sense of humor :shocked2:
