Derringer back from the dead. Completed.

Well, almost three months later I finally finished the CVA/Jukar Derringer rehab of the badly butchered kit I found in my late father-in-laws stuff.
Numerous inlays in an attempt to fix crooked or oversize holes, overcut insets, etc. and I fluted the barrel flats to get rid of the serial number, Jukar, and Spain stamping that was half filed off.
On to the next of two more rehab rifle kits...

5 coats of Tru-Oil which was then brought down to a satin finish and three coats of Brownells Oxpho Blue.

Try to salvage the lock panels.
Many-many "beginners" finished gun kit's can be seen from 15' away.
It's always a "speed race" to hurry up and slap the stain and varnish on the wood, and everyone knows you have to "sand" the wood before you do that.
So it's a heavy hand with the sandpaper.

Lock panels?

Oh boy,,
Yeah,, lock panels; a part of the stock that surrounds the perimeter of the lock, with a matching shape on the opposite side. It's basically thicker section of the stock left to add strength and support to the lock and breech area
Lock panels are a distinct feature of almost all percussion and flint lock guns.
Please look at the second photo here;
