Since Dickerson placed him at the low wall and we have the story of Crockett being abused by Santa Anna we have what seems to be a contradiction. My personal opinion is someone was captured and hoped to get himself out of a jam claimed to be Crockett
What did Crockett look like? I’ve seen paintings of him and can identify him from those paintings, however if he showed up at an event I doubt I would recognize him. It’s unlikely Santa Anna or any Mexican would be able to recognize him
I completely agree with your statement.
I believe it was Bowies or Travis’ servant, ( it’s been too long), that claimed he saw Crockett lying there dead. That would have been the one person who would have recognized him.

Another thing...I read a lengthy article about the Alamo and General Coz was quoted many times, saying how they had captured Crockett and Coz asked Santa Anna, who was related to him, to spare Crockett life due to him being a US Senator. But SA didn't want to hear it, and orders him bayoneted by soldiers.
I will look for the book.

Jose Enrique De La Pena, Lieutenant in the Mexican Army, kept a diary or daily journey. In it he claims to have been present when 6 or 7 captive survivors were brought in. One was supposedly Davy Crockett. They were hacked to death by swords used by young officers when they were reminded of the "No Quarter" order. Another myth? Who knows?
