I completely agree with your statement.Since Dickerson placed him at the low wall and we have the story of Crockett being abused by Santa Anna we have what seems to be a contradiction. My personal opinion is someone was captured and hoped to get himself out of a jam claimed to be Crockett
What did Crockett look like? I’ve seen paintings of him and can identify him from those paintings, however if he showed up at an event I doubt I would recognize him. It’s unlikely Santa Anna or any Mexican would be able to recognize him
I believe it was Bowies or Travis’ servant, ( it’s been too long), that claimed he saw Crockett lying there dead. That would have been the one person who would have recognized him.
