Yeh buddy. Grew up with horses, guns, work shop, chemistry set, baling wire, make your own spears, mortars and cannons, model airplanes and tie your own flies (the poodle's hair and Mom's nail polish)... always scrounging. Like making bacon from the cheapest pork shoulder you can find instead of paying big bucks, happiness is make it do or do without. Not because you have to but because it's fun.

Hey... this reminds me that after building hobby room shelves and tables I have something like nine left over one inch thick 2'x5' brown wood grain laminated table tops. I should post an ad.

I love using pet hair to tie flys. It makes me think lf the little fellers when Iā€™m fishing.

My wife was fly fishing last year and when she lost the only fly she had with her I tied one up with pieces of an old bow string, hay twine from our barn and a blue jay feather we found on the ground. Caught the heck out of hybrid bluegill and LMB with that fly!!

I put together a Traditions deerhunter kit rifle back in the early 90's.
I spent hours sanding and fitting all the parts. Finally got it ready for the final assembly and while I was tapping the wedge in, I split the stock all the way up to the tip of the forend.
I took a roll of silver duct tape and gave it a bunch of wraps around the barrel. Man, what a ugly mess.
On the opening day of the muzzleloader season I shot one of my biggest bucks ever with it.

And yes, many years ago as a young boy I did put cardboard or a thin piece of rubber in my shoe. I'm glad I don't have to do that any more.

Iā€˜ve reused CCI cap tins for greased patches, and for carrying a small amount of Bag Balm for my hands. Sometimes other ointments or lubes, either for my hands ( psoriasis ), or guns.

Our grill is about 30 feet from the kitchen and I don't want to lug a bunch of stuff on multiple trips back and forth. When I go out to light the grill I take a metal six pack carrier with sauce, tongs, thermometer and suchlike. I fold a piece of foil and put it on a plate. Then cover the foil and plate with plastic wrap and put the steak or fish or chicken or whatever raw food on that. While the food cooks I remove the plastic wrap, leaving a clean plate. I put the finished food on the plate, unfold the foil and cover it. Take the plate and carrier back into the house. Done deal without a lot of back and forth jitterbugging.
