I have always used the English flints, and have had good results. They are predictable.

Are there any real sweetheart flints, IE. French, German, etc. that I am missing out on?

I like the english flints but am partial to the french amber flints. They seem to last a little longer and spark a little better but not enough to justify spending $3.00 apiece. A few months ago I picked up twenty or so from a place that were priced about the same as english black flints. They were from Horst & McCann. There is an ad for them in the classified section.

I got about 60 so shots with an amber flint while sighting in my latest creation. An english flint would have probably given about 50 or so shots in the same lock. Not much difference really.

I haven't tried the german flints so can't give you any help there.
