Traditions .69 cal. Shoots well. How can I determine how far the ball is traveling?
get my brother in law to stand off at a mile and come in a hundred yards each shot till he drops.
You don’t mention your muzzle velocity or the angle barrel elevation, a couple of important factors. Just for jiggles and kicks, using a ballistics calculator, a .675” diameter roundball with a MV of 1200 FPS sighted in at 200 yards, the ball would be about 2’ high at 100 yards, 9’ low at 300 yards and about 30’ low at 400 yards. Don’t know if that helps?Traditions .69 cal. Shoots well. How can I determine how far the ball is traveling?

@deerstalkert , how tall is your brother-in-law?
Did I mention that the Tradition 0.69 is a Naval cannon?Seriously...........Get the best group you can off the bench at 50 yds. , say 4" with that big ball. Hold dead center on the orange. Big balls require say 90 GR. ffg to even begin to shoot out to even a hundred yds. . Get some tall white craft paper and staple it together , vertically. Put a 4" X 4" square of orange duct tape on the upper piece of craft paper , shoot and see if your on the paper. If the group is accurate enough , pick a distance and sight in for it.
Guessing that’s why you posted in the Cannon Sub-Forum.Did I mention that the Tradition 0.69 is a Naval cannon?

Yes we are fairly lucky here in the UK although the general opinion among fellow shooters is we are only tolerated by the Police and Home Office. It's getting more and more difficult to shoot anything and the proposed lead ban would be a major problem to us.Looks like a totally fun thing to do. Tho' it's probably not a holiday where you live (UK), mini-cannon salutes would be great here on July 4th. Had no knowledge of small cannon competition before your post. Thanks.
