This is my second large order from Dixi in the last six months. First I ordered a 1858 pietta and the thing had been dry fired so much the caps wouldn't even fit the nipples.
Now I ordered a sharps rifle $1,696,front sight $205 and a tang sight $287. The tang sight is covered with rust (see photo). What the hell I was under the impression this was a squared away company.
Frustrated!

You can look at their website and tell they're not a squared away company.

They refuse to keep up with modern times.

The information they provide for their firearms is sparse at best.

I would never buy anything from them.

And rust on a new piece like that is unacceptable.

I ordered a repro ramrod from them for the Mississippi rifle, that was advertised as a perfect replica; it was a full 1/16" too thin, and looked foolish on the gun. I never bothered to return it, too much trouble. Buy the right size rod and make your own, I say....

Yeah I never even called them about the revolver I just fixed it and moved on. I sent them an email about the sight so we shall see. It is a pedersoli sight and wasn't even in a box. They just wrapped it and the screws in bubble wrap and tossed it in with the gun.

It must have been something sold once or twice and returned until you ordered it.

I used to get a chuckle out of the mention in the catalogs that the higher priced percussion revolvers were "a nickels worth" better finish. That's folksy talkin' at best. They should be more specific, esp. as in this day and age, people are on-line and better informed than back in 1968.

Well, I hate to be negative, but I recently visited their showroom and had a neutral to negative experience. The ladies up front were sugar sweet. The CEO/owner/whatever he was in the side office, treated the wife and I like lepers. Wouldn't let me inspect one of the extensive collection of originals on the rack behind the counter. Real sourpuss. I had traveled out of my way on a vacation to get there and was disappointed. The place looked old, dated, and dusty. The prices are higher than their competitors. The car museum next door was ehh ok I guess. Just my 2c.

So many chicken vs egg moments in life.

Which came first?

The Sourpuss or the Failing Company.

Incompetence is all too common these days since the covid panic, and I mean the panic more than the covid. It's too bad when an old company like Dixie starts to fold but at least there are still some good outfits to deal with. Better hang on to the Dixie catalogs. There may not be any more coming before long. It's not too many catalogs that show the same ageless ladies wearing the same hats they wore in the '70's!

I’ve ordered small stuff from them with good results. I stopped there last fall while on a trip. Not many folks working at the time and I was the only customer in there. No real experience with expensive new stuff.
