Been to Dixon's dozens of times but never made it to the fair. Got arrangements for making it up there on July 26 Friday. I live about an hour and 15 mins from his shop. Who else is going?

I am going .. as I am a new guy to flintlocking I hope to pick up some tips on what im doing.. hopefully pick up a kit I ordered 18 weeks ago from chambers..guess us leftys have to wait longer than right handers..most likely will b sat..I live in York Pa..

I try to make it every year. Owners are nice people and fair & honest to deal with. If you have questions about your flintlock they will help but may be a bit busy during the fair. They are open every day except Wednesday and probably have more time to spend then.

I will be getting to the local campground Thursday evening after work and will be at the fair Friday and Saturday.

This will be my first trip to Dixon's and the fair. Will be leaving Fulton county around 6am with a breakfast stop in Carlisle. Looking forward to spending the day on saturday.

Hi,
I will be there with Rich all 3 days. Some of you may be interested in my post about Dixons in the Gunbuilder's Bench forum. On Friday at 10AM I will be giving a seminar on designing and building 18th and early 19th century British sporting guns and then on Saturday at 10AM I'll be doing a demo in the ALR tent on shaping the wrist and lock areas. Hope to see you there.

Perhaps my recovery from Thyroid surgery will be well enough along to come this year.

I'm looking at the maps and don't know the best route to get up there from Richmond, VA. Anyone got any ideas?

There are also a lot of places listed to stay overnight, anyone got recommendations on any place in particular?

Any info would be most appreciated.

Gus

Hi Gus,
I can't help you with a route from Richmond but many of us makers stay at the Allentown Park motel. It is 15 mi from the fair at the intersection of Rt 100 and I-78 in Fogelsville. If you can make it, try and connect with us at the ALR demonstrations tent next to the seminar tent.

I used to travel from Northern VA to Dixon's. Lived in Falls Church for 25 yrs. Best route depends on time of day. Rush hour around DC, Baltimore or even Lancaster PA are terrible. I live just a few miles from I-83 near York PA. I go across the river on Rt 30 around the North side of Lancaster and take 222 north to Reading, then around Reading and up 222 to Kutztown. The main interchange at Kutztown is Rt 222 and Rt 737. Take 737 North straight to Dixon's When I lived in Falls Church, it was often faster to take I70 North from DC to Frederick and then Rt 15 past Gettysburg to Harrisburg and get on I83 North to I-78 just north of Harrisburg and take I-78 East to Krumsville PA. (The route 737 exit) Dixons is just a few miles North of The Krumsville exit.

I’d love to meet you having read your many posts. I expect to be around the ALR gang, and will probably be wearing a ALR shirt. BJH

I am heading up Saturday morning, just over an hour from me down near Norristown. Wife needs leather, and horns for scrimshaw. Not sure what I will get, probably some more powder, can ya have to much? I think not.

I went up yesterday morning. I had some specific things in mind to buy and found none of them. (Hard to believe) There were a few things I would have picked up in the store, but the line was horrendous and the receipts are still totaled the old fashioned way. There were some interesting displays. Unfortunately before I had a chance to watch seminars, I got a call from my daughter that the smoke alarms were going off in the house and she could not find the reason. So I started home and called a buddy to see if he could figure it out. They stopped after 25 minutes and we could never figure out why they sounded off. Went around checking everything which took hours.
