Do fiber wads go bad?

dug into a bag of wads I had lying around. Right away I noticed t he ends were mushroomed and very fuzzy. when loading the tops tear away into pieces and seem to crumble as i load them into the bore. Needless to say I tried them at the range and I could not hit t he broad side of a barn! 5 shots at 50 yards and I hit the pie plate once....and the shots arent grouped they are going everywhere! this was done from a rest, nothing else was changed other than the wads....do they go bad?

I assume they were un-waxed...
What brand?
Did they get wet?
I still have some wads that are probably 20 years old and they are like the day I bought them....

Now I do have some old plastic shogun wads form the 1970's that have begun to deteriorate....
Maybe your wads were bad from the factory.... :idunno:

Same as mine except mine are waxed.....That might make a difference....Good thing they aren't expensive.......

I got some old Alcan fiber cushion wads from the early 60's and they seem to be like new. They are coated with something like a wax if that makes a difference I don't know?

Some do seem to disintegrate after several years. And as far as going bad goes, some will just not listen no matter what you do, I.m pretty sure I missed several woodcock because these things don't always go where you tell them too.

did some critical thinking , the wads i used previously were well lubed and had been marinating for quite a while. these wads were brand new..i took them out and lubed the sides and shot....im wondering if maybe they were just to dry ? the wads would enlarge a bit as they absobed lubricANT maybe these were not swlled enough and didnt make a good seal? gonna put my theory to the test. I ahve some wads marinating in olive oil right now hope to get out later this week and try

Now you're talking...my problem is I generally stay away from 'shrooms! Never sure which are the ones the make you see Jesus and which are the ones the send you there to talk to him in person! :wink: :blah:
