I am just letting everybody know that this poll will close on 4/20/16...(I just realized the irony of that)...

...Just like in real life: if you don't vote, then your opinion doesn't count either.

This metric will be the most up-to-date statistical reference for determining this forum's attitude towards grits.

Whichever side you are leaning towards, do not allow your voice to go unheard!

Thank you. :patriot:

The people who vote no on grits aren't going to be happy with you when they figure out they flunked an IQ test.

:shocked2:  It all depends on what you have been "spoon" fed...... :haha: ....Literally!

The really interesting thing about grits is that, Quaker Oats Co. dominates the market.....and they are owned by Pepsi....Grits popularity compared to other Quaker products is quite low....

I'm not so sure that is true. A lot of small mills around the south turn out slow-cook grits. In your area, and in mine, Quaker might be all you can find, but in major grit eating areas there are lots of brand choices, which added together may outweigh Quaker.

Nationally, however, the popularity of grits is low compared to things like oatmeal and Cheerios. People who eat grits usually eat other cereals too, whereas people who don't eat grits, don't eat grits.

I was speaking nationally.... Your other points are valid though.....

which added together may outweigh Quaker

Doubtful, they would also have to out weigh the next 5 largest competitors also...and even that wouldn't be enough to overcome Quaker's market share...

I was standing on the street corner in Missoula MT waiting for my brother to show. After a month in the woods I looked about what you would expect with wool clothes and a months whiskers. A young lady walked up to me and said "I see you did well". I said "what do you mean". "Well I think that must be your truck back there with all those elk horns on top and VA tags". Yep, you got me, an what you doing here"? "I'm a secretary at the university and my husband is a student, we are from NC". "how long has it been since you had a mess of grits". "I had mine this morning - thank you".

I'm sure this is true, but one must also factor in that rolled oats are used for cookies, crumble and cobbler toppings, as an extra grain in bread, brewing, and as a topical wash for skin irritation.

Grits is used for..., grits.

Highly ground grits, aka Masa Flour, probably outweighs all oat sales...as it's used in Tamales, corn chips, as a thickening agent for chili and other South American stew dishes, pupusas, and corn tortillas.

So maybe if you figure in Masa along with coarse grits the stats change?

I do like me a good Tamale.....

:haha: Sure....and if we figure in the other 400+ uses for corn, eating grits would be at the bottom of the list once again..... :haha:

Girls is one of those things that can really hit the spot, depending on weather and activity. I uauslly get morning feeding on the farm done before I eat breakfast. Coming in from zero degree weather after an hour outdoors, a pile of grits with ham and red eye gravy hits the spot . Sort of like a cold beer after a hot summer day baling hay.

The thing I don't quite understand, is the fervent defense of grits by those who adore them......Seems more than just "fodder for the grist mill".. :hmm:

I'm thinking this must be one of those Freudian typing errors

I can hardly stand it. Just WAIT till this is done... LOL Man is this gonna be fun. Can I get a "well doggies" from y'all right now for an early start?

And remember not to forget: children eating grits and/or lead paint chips have been linked to upper repository issues.

exact routine as my FIL. His biggest meal of the day. Killed in a farm accident in 1984. I miss him still.

Grits and lead paint chips???? And the children!!!! Oh the humanity :rotf:
Well you got to die of something, might as well be something enjoyable.
Being only about a hunndred people voting, and I like the results I don't spect it will settle anything

42 people voted.

If they don't vote, then they can't complain about the outcome.

The number of participants does not change anything. If 30k+ people are complacent with allowing 42 people steer the direction of this Forum's general appreciation for something, then so be it, it is their fault for not taking the opportunity to cast their vote when they had the chance. :hmm:
