Be cautious when using vinegar on steel. Vinegar, can react with steel. There is a gun barrel finish in which vinegar is used to etch the surface. In the concentrations that you would be using it to clean your rifle, it should pose no problem as long as it is rinsed off, but take care until you are sure that you are using it properly. Personally, I would not use it at all. Windex by itself with no vinegar is sufficient to safely clean your rifle
