Any of you have any experience with Mr. Stith's kits?

I am specifically interested in his Hawken Squirrel rifles.

Also, do you know if he would inlet one for a 13/16" straight barrel?

Thanks, Skychief.

Yes, not the Hawkins but I built his 1792 Contract rifle. The 1792 isn't exactly a kit for beginners but I was able to stumble through it. Don was very helpful through out the build. Not sure about the difficulty of his hawken kits but I've never heard anything bad about him or his kits. I'm sure you'll be very happy dealing with both.

I suspect he could have any barrel you'd like inlet into the gun. Best to check with him though. I've built two of his parts sets and been real happy with them. He is also one of those guys willing to answer just about any question regarding Hawken guns.

Here is one of his deluxe squirrel's that I built. This one has a tapered 38 inch .40 cal barrel on it. A roller lock and triggers.

I can't say I know much about The "Hawkin's" and the little subtleties that make them so, But I can say, To my eye, that is one beautiful gun, beautifully done! :hatsoff:

Don's part sets require addt'l work including breeching the bbl. Of course he'll do whatever you want, but at an extra charge. His components are of high quality and the finished product looks very authentic. Don's very prompt w/ the answers to any questions and in fact, sent me pics of certain areas that were in doubt. Below is Don's LH S. Hawken and the customer was very satisfied and uses it for elk. The tapered 1" to 7/8" X 36" bbl in .54 cal. makes for a lighter "Hawken" than is normally found. Capt. Fred...excellent work and an excellent final product.

I've not built one of his kits, but Don's a very nice guy and knows his stuff, and is a good gunsmith.

they are both super nice, I especially like the second one with the lock of the left side. my best "shooting" eye prefers me to shoot them left handed.

I bought a rifle from Don and wouldn't hesitate to buy from him again. The stock was damaged in shipping and Don replaced the stock with a far superior grade of maple than what I'd originally ordered. I wish I could deal with someone like Don with all transactions in life!

Best of luck with your rifle.
