I was thinking a light load in one of the barrels for 10 yard. Rabbit

I'm at 45grn and 3/4 oz #5
They say don't pattern a .410. I was just going to try it out hunting and see when If get a good close shot on one.

just wondering if anyone's loaded down that much and how's it do? I assume it's just like a modem .410 or better.

Number 5 shot is more than you need 7 1/2 or even number 8 is plenty!

At 10 yards that's way plenty! You have a lonnng string of shot there, so I'd go with more pellets, say 6s or even smaller, and avoid running or flying targets.
Just thinking back, I once forgot to add the over-shot wadding and didn't realize that all my
#4 pellets had rolled away. Fortunately I had loaded a heavy fiber wad over the powder...took a shot at Mr Cottontail at about the 10 yard mark- felt NO recoil but he skidded sideways. Stone cold dead and not a mark on him, no pellets inside, no blood - just getting smacked by the wad killed him.
However, I never forgot to add the O/S wad after that!

That's correct. I have number 6. That's good to. With the 5 though it seems to get the job done with less. I don't think I'll change shot size unless I need a higher shot count.

I was thinking it was more than enough. That's good.

Do similar with close in pigeon.
Think I'm up around 50gn of the fine stuff.

I shot one good at ten yards with the full load a couple days ago.

25 yards

15-20 yards

10 yards

I thought it was going to be worse.
I figured looking at it to cut the load in half.

As long as your velocity is up to par your good. That's too heavy a load for 410 comparison. I bet your closer to a 28 gauge. 11/16oz is a heavy 410. 410 doesn't shoot any slower than any other shotgun just less pellets and longer shot column. That what kills 410 patterns. Velocity matters and 7.5s always seem to kill the best for anyways l. Smaller shot does less damage unless your 10 yards away head shots always that close!

Modern .410 load. Sorry there's a difference between muzzloader and modern.

Is around 28ga in muzzloader loads. I'll post the chart I used.

Where do you think your velocity is at? I only know modern shotguns where I'm building funds for a fowler.. im curious. But in modern terms a 3/4oz shot load is a 28 gauge load.

I see the chart now that I actually looked.. doesn't look like there is a difference in weight of shot between modern and bp. Only velocity difference. I bet it'll kill just fine.. might be a touch slow? If you get one with that slower load let us know! I'm curious for about keeping shot noise down a little

Not like modern velocity.

I've tried to figure that out. I had a formula. I think I subtracted 200fps

Modern is 1200 to 1400 fps.

Square load is just over or around 1000

So.. 75grns 3f 1.5oz. I think 800fps.

50grns 3f and 3/4 oz. I think 1000fps it's a square load.
