A while back, 1982 I think, I got a 1st dragoon revolver from the local sporting goods outfit. This particular example was outfitted with a latch on the lever that pivoted around the retaining pin. So you had to push the little nub towards the muzzle to loose the lever. I honesty dont remember what brand the pistol was but that lever arrangment kind of soured my take on the whole lot of the horse pistols. My dragoon would drop its lever on a whim...even more so than my buddies walker. I discarded that dragoon at a gun show for next to nothing...$45 bucks maybe. And good riddance.

Now I have been noticing that some dragoons will sport a 1851 style catch. I looked for an example like that to no avail. So I broke down and sprung for a 3rd gen Uberti dragoon from midway just to get back on the horse(pistol). Low and behold the latch that looks like the old pivoting style is actually a plunger. Now i havent fired this new dragoon yet but the catch seems to be functional.

Does anyone recall ever having a dragoon with that pivoting style catch? And if so what brand was it?

I had an Armi San Marco like that. You would push the latch forward instead of down.
I have 2nd model ASM 1969 that had the 51 style. I replaced it with the plunger style and catch. This 69 has the trigger, bolt and hammer flat head screws. Like the first ASM Walkers imported by Replica Arms back in 1965.

I thought mine was an ASM but wouldn't swear to it as it was so long ago. I believe that was my first black powder shooter. It was really good looking and the only detail I remember correctly was the oval cylinder recesses and the German silver front sight. And it was the biggest handgun I had ever seen!
