Went to Harbor Freight today and found this little drill press on sale for 39.99 normally 89.99. Then found they had a 20% off coupon. Came to 31.99. Got the vise for 12.00. Hopefully this will help with the GPR kit which is supposed to arrive today. This sale at HF is till Dec 26 if any one is interested. Link

I hope I didnt screw the pic link to bad

captgary,
Good afternoon.
Looks like a nice set up for the drill press. What are the overall dimensions of the press (HxLxW)? Just out of curiosity, what will you do with your press for your GPR kit? Is it a Lyman GPR kit?
Thanks
Steve

Hi Steve,
Press is 23 X 15 1/2 X 7 1/2 has 5 speeds 620 to 3100 rpm it sits pretty good on the work bench without being bolted down. Was going to get a TOTW Bedford county long rifle for my first build. After reading info on this site I decided to go with a easier kit as everyone suggested. Got the GPR and from the looks of it I wont be needing the press on it. Own a charter boat and it will come in handy when making and repairing parts on it.

As with all boy toys the more you have the better

The planets must be aligned I got the pic to work the first time!!!!!!!

I'm guessing you have to buy it at the store? The web site doesn't show it on sale... still $89.99.

Dagnabbit! Would LOVE to have one... need one bad. :(

I compliment you on your find as well as the picture/link. I only owned one good drill press in my life and I stupidly sold it. If the bargain you found will hold the bit w/o wobbling around too much through its downstroke it will be great for buildimg ML's. Clamp it down and level it and the work so all your parts are plumb when you "poke holes" in them. A good machinists square, or even a pair, will make sure your holes go where you want them. Most of the time. anyway!

I have that same press. I bought it online about 3-4 years ago.
Harbor frieght you have to watch on the prices. You may enter the part# and get one price and search the sale prices and it wont be listed but if you scroll through 25 pages or more of tools you may find the same tool with another number and half the price of the highly advertised one. I bought mine for $39 and it wasnt listed anywhere onsale.
Its a great drill press. I have busted one vise so far. You have to watch really wrenching down on their vises there made out of a really brittle steel. I cracked one all the way in half using it to press pins.

Static.
Give them a call tell them you seen it on sale in the catalog for 39.99. Thing weighs 40 lbs, shipping might be a little steep. 805-388-3000 order no.
Looks to be pretty sturdy, spindle is nice and tight, only has a 2 inch stroke but long enough for me, as long as i dont beat on it it should last me the rest of my days.

A drill press is one of the handiest tools in the shop. Got a floor model with a 1 HP motor from a shop going out of business. Never use a hand drill to make a hole anymore if I can get the piece of work into my basement. Use it to hold taps square into the work too. Don't use the power, just hand turn the chuck. Great tool.
