I would like to buy an early CVA Mountain rifle: prefer dark maple wood, .50 or .54 percussion, USA made on barrel if possible. Willing to pay well for the right example. PM pictures and price if you have one, thanks

I have two, nice, but if those who have them value them as I do, the price will be high. I would not let mine go for less than $550 and $600. These critters in excellent shape, made in USA, 4 screw patch box, and octagon ramrod thimbles are becoming treasured and highly valued. Polecat

what year is considered early? Local guy has one from around 1984, not sure if he will ship or not.
Well, not real sure of year(s) but the early ones are browned barrels, maple stocks. The real early ones have hexagon ramrod thimbles and" made in USA" on the barrel. Take a look at your friends and see if it has any of these qualities. Thanks for the reply.

Hi. I really did not mean to imply that I wanted to sell. I was just giving you a bit of probability. One of mine is maple with quite a bit of curl; the other is very plain maple. One is a .45 the other a .50. Both are excellent functionally and visually. I don't have any pictures but if it would help you know what you are looking for, I can send some tomorrow evening. Dale

Dale, that would be great, thanks. Feel bad to see you going to the trouble of taking pictures though. I would like one of these in a .50/ .54 to have.. and to occasionally take into the PA deer woods during regular season. Tell me if I am correct - a .54 or .58 does not have a patch box, has round thimbles and no " made in USA" .....correct?

No. Mine both have patch boxes, both say Made in USA and both have hexagonal ramrod thimbles. It is no trouble. It is past my bedtime and I have an appointment tomorrow but will be home early afternoon. Dale

I have one in the pile, it may take me a couple days to get to it. Message me Saturday.

Sent you a PM.

Many thanks to everyone trying to help and give me some leads. Keep 'me comin' . I am relatively new to the forum and already realize that I am in the company of a great bunch of guys that share my passion for muzzleloading.

Here are some pics of my two CVA Mountain Rifles. I hope these will help you determine what you want and values. Please note: the values I earlier placed on these two rifles is MY value. The dark one is .45, the lighter one is .50. There is one for sale on GunBroker now.

Thanks Dale, now you are really fannin' the flame! That .45 really appeals to me because of the rich, dark tone. I saw the one on Gunbroker, the seller's description of the bore sort of scared me away. There is one like your .45 on Track, but seems to be spoken for. Keep 'em comin' .....I am on a winter, avoid covid, quest....

Did you notice the curl in the stock seen in the next to last picture? It is mostly in the butt stock but pretty extensive there. If I should decide to sell it you will be notified first. We are carefully avoiding crowds and doing all we can to stay healthy. I am almost 89 and wife has diabetes so careful it is.

Still lookin' for the gun at top of thread......CVA Mountain. Definitely would shell out 500 for one that meets the description of what I am looking for. Never was one to wheel and deal, may as well let you know where I stand, thanks, Bucky

There’s one listed on gunbroker. Doesn’t show the entire gun but it is an early stock with the 4 screw patchbox. $249.00 minimum with no bids so far. 5 days left on the auction.
