In the universe of after-market and separately buyable percussion locks, please identify those having an excellent reputation for high quality of assembly AND beauty. Please include semicustom locks if such locks exist and are priced below $600.00.

I may not understand what you are looking for. Can you give a better description or a picture of what you are asking?

Uh, he wants recommendations for... "high quality", "include semicustom locks" and "priced below $600."

What is his definition of English style? I would just keep it simple and say Chambers. But in a percussion lock, it is kind of hard to screw up a lock that strikes a perc. cap. So, you can include L&R as well, Davis, M&G and I am sure some others as well.

He must have edited his post. It is now about an hr. latter than it was when I first posted.

Bob Roller makes some of the finest locks in the world, and in just about in any style you wish. His email [email protected]

AS frEnglishsh Percussion locks they varied in style and quality: Are you looking for one with a regular full size plate (such as made by Ashemore, et al) or the bar locks so often seen on good English sporting rifles?

Oh, wow. The English lock with which I am visually familiar - I've not seen one or shot one - is Alex Henry bar lock. I think?? it require some sort of filler plate? If there are additional patterns or configurations identified as "English style," I would have interest.

The lock pattern would affix to a .72-caliber 1.25-inch barrel. The way things have evolved is .72-caliber is what I have as well as what I am acquiring.

I emailed Bob Roller a little more than a week ago but have received no reply.

I asked Jim Chambers about his products. He does not make such locks, but he may have a couple of antique locks about which I know nothing beyond his brief reply.

L & R makes an English style lock...at least that is the lock I got with a Pecatonica Rigby kit. Track of the wolf sells the same kit. You need to solder a "drip bar" to the barrel for the lock to butt up to. Kind of tricky if you have never soldered anything to a barrel...but doable. Paul

Thanks. I located his email address via a MEMBERS search. I just sent Mr. Zihn a query.

Well if your looking fore a really good English Lock and prepared to pay 600 why not buy the real thing there's plenty over here, most real gunsmiths have got some, and action houses frequently have them.
