Enough spark?

New to flintlocks and having problems with first strike ignition, this video is after I squared up the flint and centered it up on the frizzen just wondering if the amount of spark looks about right or if I need to napp the flint? The video is at 1/4 speed

I'm not sure I was hoping the video being slowed down would help but I can't tell

Yeah was hard for me to tell also. I think you got enough spark, I'd try to see if they're being well directed to the pan. You having flash in pan issues or failure to fire main charge?

Its not setting the pan off. I'm going to try fresh powder in the pan primer in the morning and see if that helps.

What powder are you using to prime the pan? It needs to be real black powder not a substitute like pyrodex.

More than enough spark and 3F should ignite fine. The problem lies elsewhere. The video is too dark to see what's happening after the spark. I tried watching that video multiple times and the best I could get out of it is guessing that maybe the flint is striking the frizzen too low and so it's not opening fast enough or far enough for the spark to get down into the pan. I couldn't determine how the flint was mounted, but maybe you could try flipping it over and see if that helps, or shimming the leather so the flint strikes the frizzen higher.

FFFFg is little bit easier to ignite , and quicker , too. Could try turning the flint over in the jaws to see if that's better. Ya just won't know 'til ya try it.

With the cock down, and the frizzen open, looking from the right side perpendicular to the barrel, check the position of the edge of the flint. Is it aiming right at the flash hole or is it in front of or behind the hole. A lock with proper geometry and with the appropriate sized flint should drop the sparks right into the middle of the pan, right into the priming charge.

wiscoaster may be on to your issue. Is the frizzen going full open? If you still have issues after doing wisecoater's suggestions, send another video only with more light so we can see the mechanics. Your spark is adequate.

PS Damp or cantaminated powder will also cause issues. Just another thought

Agree with Wiscoaster. The powder is fine and we see plenty of sparks. Something else is amiss here.

Hey I don't know, but you can try different mounting for the flint. I always cut a hole in the leather so the flint is held firm against the cock screw.
Naturally you can put a shim under the flint to get a different shaving angle.
Probably a bunch of other tricks specific to your lock.
I messed/stressed with some locks for insane amount of time, and then allowed a pro to get everything at the correct angle and the springs adjusted. Anyway, at some point you might have a pig.
